Once again, in an effort to set their own standards, IBM has decided the dmesg command, as used by every other UNIX in the world, isn’t good enough for them.

In order to see console messages, you must use the alog command. This command does more than the dmesg command on other UNIXes; you can create a number of message buffers similar to what dmesg uses. I’m not sure what the use of that would be, but it’s there nonetheless.

Execute alog -L to get a list of the log types that are defined in the odm database.

To see the boot messages, execute alog -o -t boot
